Sufi circling

Whirling Meditation, inspired by the ancient tradition of Sufi mystics, is a unique practice that awakens inner harmony and leads you to a deep state of awareness. At the Prayas Meditation Center we offer you the opportunity to experience this powerful technique, which can transform you in just one session.

The Essence of Whirling

Суфійське кружлянняWhirling is not merely physical spinning; it is a meditative dance where the inner and the outer merge into one. The practice invites you to access your inner center. With your eyes open, you whirl like a child, not worrying about the correctness of your movements but completely surrendering to the process. Let the outlines of surrounding objects blur, and let your body become the instrument of movement. You become both the observer and the participant: your body spins while your essence remains still, focused at its center.

During this practice, it is important to feel that your body is like a potter’s wheel, and you are the artisan creating inner harmony and beauty. The deeper you immerse yourself in the process, the clearer it becomes: your body moves, yet you remain stationary, calm, and focused.

Preparation for the Practice

🔹 Three hours before the meditation, refrain from eating and drinking so that your body remains light.

🔹 Wear loose clothing that does not restrict your movements.

🔹 Practice barefoot to enhance your connection with the earth.

The Meditation Process

Whirling Meditation consists of two stages: active whirling and rest.

Stage One: Whirling

Begin the spinning: in place, moving counterclockwise. If this causes discomfort, you may change the direction to “clockwise.”

❗Hand Position:

🔹 The right hand is raised upward, palm facing the sky — a gesture of receiving energy.

🔹 The left hand is lowered, palm facing the earth — a gesture of giving energy.

Starting:

🔹 For the first 15 minutes, whirl slowly to get accustomed to the rhythm and sensations.

🔹 Gradually increase your speed over the next 30 minutes, until your body turns into a moving vortex.

🔹 Let your body move while your center of consciousness remains still — observe the movement without losing awareness.

Transition to the Second Stage

🔹 When the spinning reaches maximum speed, your body may lose balance. Allow this to happen naturally.

🔹 Do not control the fall: a relaxed body will fall softly, and the energy will dissolve into the earth.

Stage Two: Rest

🔹 Immediately after the fall, turn onto your stomach so that your navel touches the ground. This will help you "ground" your energy. If lying on your stomach is uncomfortable, turn onto your back.

🔹 Close your eyes, completely relax, and remain still for at least 15 minutes.

🔹 Feel how your body becomes one with the earth, as if you were a child clinging to a mother’s breast.

Important Aspects of the Practice

🔹 Duration: For deep immersion, it is recommended to whirl for at least one hour. If you feel you can continue longer, do so as long as you are comfortable.

🔹 Inner Observer: During the whirling, remember that while your body is a moving storm, a silent witness resides at your center. Maintain your awareness.

After the Meditation

🔹 Try to preserve your inner silence and calm. Do not immediately jump into active activities; allow your body and mind to integrate the experience.

🔹 If you feel slight nausea during the first few days, it is a normal reaction. Usually, it passes within 2–3 days. However, if the discomfort persists, it is advisable to temporarily discontinue the practice.

Conclusion

Whirling Meditation is a path to awakening your inner energy and self-awareness. Through movement, you discover stillness; through chaos, you arrive at silence and mindfulness. Practice while remaining the witness, and let the energy transform you.

At the center of the movement, there is always peace. Find it within yourself.
